Fever in children: Should be conscious about that

Fever comes when the body’s internal “thermoregulatory” increases the temperature of the body of its normal level. This thermoregulatory is detected in the piece of the brain called the neural structure. The neural structure knows what temperature your body should be (generally around 96.8°F/36°C) and will send a mental object in your body to keep it that way. Fever in children is the normal response to a variety of conditions and the most common of which is infectious. Infection is the most common occurrence of fever in children. Most fevers in children are not dangerous and are due to the normal contagions of childhood as well as coughs, colds and other viral infections.

Possible reason of fever in children:

  • Viral infections are the most common reason. Viral infections cause many common sicknesses as well as colds, coughs, flu, diarrhea, etc. Sometimes viral infections reason more serious sicknesses.
  • Bacterial infections are less common than viral infections but also cause fevers. Bacteria are more probably to reason serious sickness as well as respiratory disease, urinary and kidney infections, blood poisoning and infectious disease.
  • Other types of infection are unusually reasons of a high temperature.

When a child has a fever the following symptom displays:

  • A fluid or stuffy nose
  • Sneezing
  • Headache and sometimes muscle hurt (preverbal children may be fussy)
  • Loss of patience
  • A dry cough
  • Muscle aches and pains (a preverbal child may not want to be healed)
  • Unusual sleepiness
  • Chills
  • Dizziness, stumbling, and bumping into things
  • Vomiting and diarrheal (sometimes)
  • Crying more
  • Weakness to answer to the sounds
  • Dizziness, stumbling, and bumping into things

Treatment of fever in child:

The most effective way to treat fever in children is to use a medicine as well as paracetamol or Motrin. These treatments can reduce the child’s irritation and lower the child’s temperature by 2 to 3ºF (1 to 1.5ºC). Aspirin is not recommended for children under age 18 years due to concerns that it can cause an uncommon but dangerous sickness known as Reyes symptom.

Paracetamol may be given every four to six hours as required but it should not allow for more than five times twenty four hours in a day. Paracetamol should not be applied to children younger than three or four months of age.

Preventions of fever:

In most cases it is not required to treat fever in children. A child older than three of four months who has a rectal temperature less than 102ºF (38.9ºC) and who is differently healthy and acting generally does not need treatment for fever.

Accepting a fever causes most children to feel tired and aching. During this time the parents should recommend their child to rest as much as the child needs. It is not necessary to pressure the child to sleep or rest.

Most fevers are due to infections that are not dangerous and do not last long. But see a doctor if a child does not feel better within a couple of days nor has any troubling symptom.
