Emerging Issues in Mental Health and Mental Disorders

A person is said to have a mental health when one can effectively perform all activities which are perceived mentally, to produce positive results such as good relationship with other people, doing their job well and coping with various life challenges and much more. When the mentioned things become hard to fulfill due to factors emanating from one’s mind, the individual is said to have a mental disorder. Among the signs that such people portray include impaired function, drastic change of moods, abnormal behaviors and others. This could further result to pain on the patient which results from a number of reasons including unconscious infliction of pain on oneself, intake of harmful substances amongst other factors. This could further lead to disability and even death, depending on the condition of the patient and the situation and conditions at which they live. The term mental illness is widely used to refer to a number of diagnosable mental disorders, while some people refer to the conditions as insanity, or the opposite of doing what is widely perceived as right. In other words, mental illness or disorder refer to execution of various functions by a human being contrary to what is perceived as right or collect.

Mental illness has been associated with many disabilities, since as it is well known, everything that other body organs are able to perform and do, are characterized by our brains. It is the most active part of human being, since it controls all the activities of other body organs. Many research that are done on mental health indicate that averagely one in every twenty persons has a mental disorder, a problem which contributes to deaths of more than thirty thousand people annually across the globe. Mental health and physical health goes in handy, and are closely related. This is to mean that in case a person has a mental disorder; chances of becoming physically ill are also very high. To start with, mentally ill people have a problem in eating healthily. This leads to deterioration of their physical health. Traumas, stress and depression are some examples of mental disorders, which largely contribute to deteroriation of people’s physical health and eventually lead to death or much serious conditions.

Despite all the known issues of mental disorders, some new issues and trends are emerging. for instance, there are veterans, who having gone through mental disorder for a long period of time are now ready to help other people overcome the situation. These emerging issues places hope on the ailing people, proving that indeed mental is a reality and a problem, but also reminding them that this problem and challenge could be overcome. Another emerging issue is that older adults who have been diagnosed with mental disorders, especially concerning mood problems and such mental illnesses are responding well to treatments, since improvements can be seen.

 Additionally, there are certain communities where a natural disaster affected many people and caused severe psychological trauma on both the young and the old people. These people have however continued to coexist with others, and have learnt to control their challenges, living a good life even when forgetting about the disaster is almost impossible. Another emerging issue is that various governments all over the world have now identified mental disorder as a national problem and matter, which has made them to put up facilities aimed at catering for such people in order to restore hope to them and their loved ones. Finally, researchers have continued inventing various methods of curbing the problem, ranging from drugs to therapies that help ailing individuals into retracing their mental health.
