Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not make or effectively use insulin, a hormone which is used to convert starches, sugar and other food into energy which are essential for daily life. Due to diabetes blood sugar level increase above its normal value. It is a disease which affects how the body makes use of glucose, a form of sugar, which is our major source of energy. We get glucose from the food we eat and when it enters into our bloodstream, our pancreas generates a hormone which is known as insulin that help the sugar to get inside our cells for use as energy. It exists not only on its own but could trigger many complications and other diseases to surface. Many diabetes complications are- blindness, heart problem, kidney failure and amputations. There are three types of diabetes which could be developed for a specific age range or condition of people. These types are- types1, types2, Gestational Diabetes. The type 1 is normally developed among children or the type 2 is developed among adults. There is also the kind of diabetes which only pregnant women can acquire. This is known as gestational diabetes. The gestational diabetes is not permanent because it’s invisible as soon as the pregnancy is over. But if it is not treated then it can cause great danger.
When one attack with diabetes mellitus then the body either cannot create sufficient insulin, which is the cause of type 1 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes occurs by old age, obesity, family history of the ailment, less glucose tolerance, lack of physical exercise.
Cause of Diabetes:
The cause of diabetes relies on the type. Type 1 may be developed from environmental triggers such as an unidentified virus which attacks the pancreas and causes it to malfunction in producing insulin. Type 2 is caused primarily by lifestyle and genetic factors. Some health conditions and medicines can also increase diabetes. Due to type 2 diabetes, sugar increase in blood, this extra sugar in the blood can damage our eyes, heart, blood vessels, nerves and kidney. Gestational diabetes is a temporary form of insulin resistance. It usually goes away after pregnancy. But who have gestational diabetes are increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes surface symptoms cannot monitor like any other sickness. Some symptoms which are shown-
- Frequent urination
- Excessive drying of the skin
- Unusual thirst
- Extreme hunger
- Cuts or bruises that are slow to heal
- Recurring skin, gum or bladder infections
- Unusual weight loss
- Extreme fatigue
- Blurred vision
When the diabetes is dependent on insulin then other symptoms like nausea, vomiting or stomach pains. For type 1 diabetics, Symptoms may develop quickly while they typically develop slowly among type 2 patients.
Unfortunately, diabetes cannot be cured fully. But it is possible to minimize its effects in our life. There are some treatments which are helpful for minimizing diabetes. These treatments are- insulin injections, oral hypoglycemic, changes in lifestyle, and annual or regular checkups, healthy diet, exercise.
